These are expedition cruises (up to 8-hour hikes or kayaking excursions, 5-6 hour fishing trips, shorter hikes and kayaking excursions).  After each day of adventure, dinner and mingling in the public areas is all in casual, comfortable clothing as well.  Comfortable sturdy hiking pants/jeans, rainproof jackets, hiking boots and sneakers recommended.

  • Facilities and Activities: A main salon is for socializing. A dining room accommodates all guests at one seating. There is a hot tub and two saunas on the top deck.  Educational presentations are conducted by onboard naturalists. Hiking and kayaking excursions are led by knowledgeable crewmembers.  Entertainment after dinner consists of conversation, watching a movie/DVD, night kayaking, or a lecture with underwater cameras and hydrophone sending images and sound from the depths to the large flat screen TV. Shore excursions include a variety of hiking, kayaking and skiff excursions. Remote small town visits include escorted walks through town or the area right outside of town.  Some optional tours at an additional charge are offered such as Stikine River jet boat ride out of Wrangell, overnight camping/hiking trips with all gear and equipment provided - meeting up again with the mother ship the next day, flightseeing tours over glaciers/fjords, caving on Prince of Wales Island. Fully-equipped fishing boats run 5-6 hour fishing excursions about 4 days of each itinerary.  Wildlife is a major focus with such encounters as humpback whales bubble-net feeding (blowing bubbles to herd herring into a huge mass for whales to feed). In Wrangell and Klawock there are cultural demonstrations at tribal houses and carving sheds and other cultural interactions.  Open bridge.
